browser timing out - can't connect

Post by sweddjen »

When I'm at work, I can't seem to connect to netjukebox on my home computer.

When I go to my IP http://##.###.##.222/netjukebox/, I receive the following error in my browser:
Connection Interrupted
The connection to the server was reset while the page was loading.
The network link was interrupted while negotiating a connection. Please try again.
So it appears to be timing out...

At work I'm on a mac with Firefox 3.0.

Any idea why it times out?

Thanks!

How long does it take before you get this message?

I don't mean to state the obvious, but is your computer behind a router, and if so have you forwarded port 80 to your computer's local IP address?

It takes about 60-90 seconds to timeout. I'm not sure exactly because I keep alt-tabbing to do something else, and by the time I come back it has timed out.

Yes my computer is behind a router at home. I'm a total noob at networking stuff, so I haven't forwarded anything.....

How do I go about forwarding it? I have a linksys router, and am using xampp. Do I forward it from within my router setup page?

Thanks.

Thanks... got the port forwarded last night. The print issue of Maximum PC didn't include the last step in the process that the online article did.
